Can I bring a support person
I’m sorry, that’s a ‘NO’, principally because demand is high and our space is limited; we cannot in good faith give a space to someone not working with Ayahuasca. Additionally, someone not participating in the retreat will be in a different space and on a frequency which would be uncomfortable for that person, for you and for the other participants.
What about medications?
We take our work seriously and participants’ safety is a priority. We are not MDs; we are ayahuasqueros, those who work with a non-toxic plant called Ayahuasca. We make an effort to insure all participants are able to participate at no risk to themselves or anyone else. Few medications, and fewer physical/medical conditions, are contra-indicated for Ayahuasca. If you consider coming with us, we’ll ask for a list of the medications you’re presently taking, if any. If issues arise, we work with you and our medical consultant to generate options so you may safely attend. For the specifics on big pharma medications and Ayahuasca, get in touch with Sharon at: sharonatbluestone@gmail.com
Do you offer suggestions for hotel recommendations for people arriving early?
Given tastes and budgets vary we choose to make a single suggestion—that you book a room at the property we lease in its entirety for our retreats. The advantage is being onsite and rested when the retreat kicks off as well as being already settled in the room you’ll have for the duration. We provide contact info and you book and pay the property directly for the extra night(s). But there are a plethora of lodging options in Cancun; Airbnb Cancun has an impressive range of properties and rates. If you stay elsewhere in Cancun, we organize your ride to the retreat with our transport people at a cost to you of 50usd (paid directly to the driver). A Cancun taxi or Uber will charge you approximately the same but the driver will never find the venue as Google has incorrectly mapped its location J Our complementary shuttles are limited to collecting participants at the airport on the opening day of the retreat.
Is Bluestone Ayahuasca a resort?
No. Bluestone Ayahuasca retreats take place at a private property in the jungle on the outskirts of Cancun. We lease the property in its entirety for our retreats and it is ideally suited to our purposes. A maloca, temazcal, pool and extensive gardens are organically arranged in the space; rooms are spacious and fitted with wifi, A/C, ceiling fans and ensuite bathrooms. Meals are catered by the culinary magas of the Bluestone team, household duties covered by staff. Only the Bluestone team, staff and participants are on site throughout the retreat. As a private property, there are no stores orfull-time restaurants; we cover all the necessities for the week of the retreat.
Do you offer other medicines besides Ayahuasca at the retreat?
Our principal medicine is Ayahuasca. We complement Ayahuasca with two other medicines: Rapè,
(raPAY) blended from natural tobacco and medicinal herbs and offered at ceremony and upon request throughout the week. Bufo Alvarius is offered as an add-on, an optional activity. It is the ONLY activity/medicine on offer that is NOT included in the retreat cost. Our medicine giver is a Bufo Alvarius Master trained in Sonora by the only indigenous tribes working with Bufo. DMT is the psycho-active element in both Bufo and Ayahuasca rendering them compatible in our view. Adding it as an option seemed a ‘no’brainer’ given we’ve a Bufo Master onsiteJ Again, Bufo is an option, not obligatory and NOT included in the retreat cost.
Do you offer Ayahuasca or other medicines outside retreat dates?
Yes! We accept single, one-night Ayahuasca ceremonies for groups, Bufo Alvarius for single individuals or small groups, and temazcals for single persons or small groups outside our retreat dates. Contact us for details.
What is the size of your groups?
We keep retreats to a maximum of 15 but gladly work with less and most of our groups tend to be 10 to 12 persons. We do not cancel retreats. Every group is the Perfect StormJ We keep our maximum small so that everyone gets the attention and/or help each needs or wants.
What about diet during the retreat?
We follow a vegetarian diet, NOT vegan. Our meals are created from vegetables, fruits, grains and nuts; we avoid animal protein, lactose, sugar, onion, garlic and chile. Eggs appear at breakfast and we do serve fish, shellfish or chicken at the Closing Dinner and a vegetarian option is available on advance request. We do NOT cater to food preferences but do work with those who have food allergies or a medical reason for requiring modifications to the house diet. Notification in advance required.
Is it true menstruating woman are not allowed into ceremonies
Many indigenous tribes have taboos around menstruating women. We respect the cultural beliefs of all peoples while NOT holding to some of those beliefs ourselves. The feminine energy of a woman on her ‘luna’ is at its maximum expression and we help her harmonize and balance her feminine and masculine energies prior to the start of ceremony. A women on her luna is undergoing a natural process and natural processes are no impediment to working with plant medicine in our view.
Do you have wifi?
Yes we do, and it’s a stable connection. However, we ask you to stay off devices connected to the internet as much as possible. We’re going for another type of connection entirely—one with our inner selves—and the pull and potentially negative energy of the internet is not supportive of our goals in retreat. We understand and support those who need to communicate with family throughout the week but ask that participants stay off the internet as much as possible.
Do I have to participate in every activity
We ask participates to commit wholeheartedly to the retreat. Each activity moves you forward and is included for a reason. You will get from the week what you put into it. Give it your all and surprise yourself. We’re with you every step of the way.
Can I take a tour on the days we’re not taking Ayahuasca?
We ask you to NOT do that. Your energetic fields are wide open when working with plant medicine; being in crowds is unsettling and could affect your work. Equally important is the strong energetic bond generated between participants and that dynamic suffers by people coming and going. And finally, on most days you’ll have something on your agenda if only catching up on sleep
Do you accept special requests not on the retreat program such as scheduling a massage, ordering flowers or a fruit basket for my room
No. Mounting a retreat every three weeks is a massive undertaking for us. We are a small team and each of us has numerous tasks to complete prior to the retreat in addition to getting ourselves packed and our homes prepped for a week’s absence. We simply do not have the resources to undertake personal shopping and booking additional services requires tweaking the schedule which affects everyone. We have a program and stick to it. Thank you for understanding.
Why do you request I download the smart phone app, WhatsApp?
We use WhatsApp to communicate with each other, staff and drivers. The shuttle drivers use it to communicate with you and you with them. And very importantly: it’s the way to ask and quickly receive answers from us in real time—and we DO answer your queries. We are aware some folks have issues with this app but it’s the messaging app most used in our region of Mexico so it was the logical choice. The app is imperative for the retreat—we must be able to communicate with each other using a common app. Thank you for complying.
What airport do I fly into? Does Bluestone provide transportation from the airport to the venue and back to the airport?
You fly into the Cancun International Airport. And YES! We provide two complimentary shuttles from the airport to the venue on the first day of the retreat and a single free shuttle from the venue back to the airport on the last day of the retreat. Scheduling times apply. Get in touch with us for details or check out the info provided in the section “What’s Included” which is part of the Retreat Dates page on this website.
